But…. Have you ever had a surprise extra chilled martini outside, on a ridiculously hot September day in Houston? Me either, not until 2 weeks ago.

2 weekends ago, I had one of the coolest encounters at the farmer’s market. It was towards the end of a hot Saturday market and guests were just trickling in at this point. Along came a guy who was curious about the sauce. I gave him a little cup with the sauce and a fried wonton. He tried the sample and then sipped the sauce. With his chin up to the sky, he paused and studied the flavors, similar to the way a sommelier would marinate on characteristics of a fine wine. This made me happy, because I love it when consumers are fascinated by the complexities of Olokoi.

After he spent some time, he said,” this would make a great martini.” I have known Olokoi was a fantastic addition to a bloody mary, but a martini never crossed my mind. I was intrigued! So, I made a request, I asked that he test out a martini recipe and come back the following Saturday to tell me how it went. I love it when I get feedback, and I was super excited about this one.

Well, lucky me, I did not have to wait until next Saturday. I waited an hour. He left and came back with a chilled shaker, with an Olokoi dry martini. It was delicious, and I was instantly converted to a martini kind of gal. I never drink them, but now I do. I just need to get some quality gin and vermouth. Does anyone have any favorite brands?

These types of moments are my favorite. When I get a chance to meet someone who takes Olokoi to a place I never imagined, or thought would be possible. Curiosity and food (or drink in this instance) are how some of the greatest recipes are created.

After we clinked plastic cups and sipped away, I asked that he make a drink with tequila. I am a self-proclaimed margarita snob and only drink Cadillacs. He said that he will have his friends try to make one. I am assuming he is in the industry or just a great mixologist who has friends that are equally creative.

Anyhow, check out the posted recipe of this fabulous martini. Let me know if you make it, cheers!
